The V-neckⁱ is the classic business appearance over a shirt and tie - it shows the collar and tie knot and looks tidy without becoming too formal. For sales teams, alumni associations and corporate appointments without a jacket, the V-neck remains the first choice. The crew neckⁱ is the casual appearance: more relaxed than a V-neck but still considerably smarter than a sweatshirt, and ideal for corporate-casual days, team photos and alumni merch without a tie requirement. For boutique retail and reception outfits with a polished standard we recommend a V-neck; for relaxed working atmospheres in agencies and startups rather a crew neck.

The Cardigan with button placketⁱ is the classic hotel and boutique uniform: five or six buttons along the front, often with matching Men's and Women's models for unified team appearances. It looks more polished and traditional, opens up for movement and fits the boutique or hospitality look. The Zip Cardigan with a full-length zip is the modern, pragmatic alternative – quickly put on and off, more technical in look and ideal for golf clubs, yacht clubs and retail teams with frequent temperature changes. Rule of thumb: if the appearance should feel traditional (hotel reception, alumni association), button placket; if it should feel modern and functional (golf, yacht, retail modern), zip.

The Merino-polyacrylic mix (typical for Tee Jays TJ6000/TJ6006) combines the soft warmth performance of finest Merino woolⁱ with the dimensional stability and easy care of polyacrylicⁱ. The feel is significantly softer and more premium than pure Cottonⁱ, doesn't scratch like classic woolⁱ and is machine-washable at 30 degrees – the premium basis for sales teams and executive merch. Pure Cotton in 12-gauge fine knitⁱ (Henbury, Asquith & Fox, Ecologie) offers the natural feel, breathes better and looks more textile – ideal for corporate suit wearers who prefer a natural fibre. The extra cost for Merino mixes is about five to ten euros per piece and is worth it for visible presentation occasions.

For consistent men's and women's uniforms in hotels and boutique retail, we recommend brands that offer their models as a deliberate twin pair. Henbury offers the most consistent collection for hotel reception with W720 (men's V-neckⁱ) and W721 (women's V-neck fine knitⁱ) as well as W722/W723 (V-cardigan men) and W719 (longline cardigan women). NEOBLU carries Sullivan as NB3987 (men) and NB3988 (women) in the identical V-neck design. SOL'S delivers the price-friendly classic with L410/L411 (Galaxy V-neck). Important for ordering: same colour code, same fabric weight and same material combination, so that the uniform really looks unified in team photos.

Fine knitⁱ tolerates in most cases machine wash at 30 degrees in the woolⁱ cycle – the spin cycle should be reduced to 400 revolutions to protect the stitches. Pure Cottonⁱ and Cotton-acrylic mixes are more robust here than Merinoⁱ models. Consistently avoid fabric softener because it coats the fibre and makes the feel dull. Shape the Sweater flat after washing – never hang on a hanger, otherwise the wet knit weight pulls and stretches out the shoulders. Dry flat on a drying rack or towel, never in the sun. Merino models often also tolerate hand wash with lukewarm water and a mild wool detergent – read the inner label before the first wash.

Embroidery is the clearly preferred finish for fine-knit Sweaters - 12-gauge knit provides a smooth, dense surface on which club crests, company logos and alumni motifs sit cleanly. The standard position is the left chest (about 8-10 cm high), less commonly the right sleeve end or the upper back. Screen printingⁱ is less suitable because the knit structure can break the print and large motifs look cracked after several washes - for large motifs the sweatshirt remains the better base. On Cardigans the embroidery must be placed on one of the two front sides so that it does not sit on the edge when buttoning up or zipping. For alumni crests we recommend embroidered rather than printed emblems - they look considerably more premium.

A knitted Sweater is made from knitted fabric – you recognise it by the visible stitch structure on the surface, the structural feel and the more elegant drape. Sweatshirts are made of dense sweat fabricⁱ with a smooth outside and brushedⁱ inside, look sportier and fit merch and club outfits better. Fleeceⁱ Sweaters are made of soft fleece – warmer than knit, less sensitive to moisture, but optically clearly recognisable as outdoor or sportswear. For business, hospitality and alumni the knitted Sweater remains the right choice, for club youth and corporate casual the sweatshirt, for outdoor use and golf in November the Fleece Sweater (Result Polartherm).

Fine knitⁱ Sweaters are fundamentally lighter and less warming than hoodies – the typical Fabric weight is between 200 and 280 g/m², while hoodies only start at 280 g/m². Fine knit is designed as a layering piece in the onion look, not as standalone warmth insulation. For business appearances in heated offices and hotel reception this is exactly right. For outdoor use, cold golf rounds and winter events a classic fine knit is not enough – here we recommend Fleeceⁱ Sweaters (Result Polartherm with 250 g/m² dense fleece) or layering with a Softshell jacketⁱ over the top. For the autumn transition in retail boutique everyday life, the sweet spot is 240 to 280 g/m² fine knit.
