Specifically developed for elastic sports textiles with Elastanei content - thin, highly stretchable PU film that permanently follows the fabric stretch of jerseys and sports shirts without cracking. Washable at 60 degrees and the most reliable choice for club name print on football jerseys.
Velvety retro classic
Stahls CAD-CUT Flock flex film
Flocked surface with a velvety feel - the classic club-lettering film with a visible texture and high opacity. Roll width 100 x 50 cm, in classic club colours and for everything that should look premium and retro.
Safety reflective

Sublimation barrier
Stahls CAD-CUT Premium Plus Sublistop

What you can do with our Flex films
From band merch to corporate identity – the right model is the basis for a thousand ideas.
Club jerseys with name and number
The core use case in the daily life of a club youth outfitter: football jerseyi with back name and number, individually per player. For jerseys with elastanei content we reach for the SA150 SportsFilm - stretchable to the textile limit, clean edges and washable at 60 degrees for the entire season. Set up number sets in standard sizes once, then only plot the names individually afterwards.
Corporate polos and team kit
For corporate teamwear with an embroidered appearance, without the embroidery costs: polos or T-shirts with a discreet company logo on the chest in company colour. The SA100 Premium Plus delivers the reference PU feel, withstands 60-degree wash and, with matt surface, looks almost embroidered - ideal for mixed-use merchandise stocks between trade and sales team.
Fire brigade and rescue service
For fire brigade additional strips, rescue service labelling and warning vest personalisation, reflective material is mandatory. The PT200N Poli-Flex Reflex with 3M glass bead coatingi reflects back silver when illuminated and, with 0.16 mm material thickness, is easy to press - the standard choice for safety applications with film printing.
Fan shop and stage merchandise
Sports shirt and jersey sublimation
For name prints on sublimation jerseys and colour-sublimated polyesteri sports shirts, Sublistop is mandatory - otherwise the jerseyi base colour bleeds into the white name print. The SA300 Premium Plus Sublistop cleanly blocks bleeding and delivers a permanently colour-stable name print even on bright red or blue jerseys after two or three washes.
Retro club lettering in flock
For classic club lettering on sweatshirts, college jackets and retro fan collections: flock film with a velvety feel instead of smooth standard flex. The SA350 Stahls Flock in a 100 x 50 cm roll delivers the typical suede-like appearance and lifts the lettering tactilely from its surroundings — the classic for all applications with an upmarket retro claim.
What the flex film properties really mean
So that you can make a well-founded decision between 44 rolls: here we explain the most important product features in detail – with their significance, fields of application and practical buying tips.
Base material (PU vs. PVC)
Polyurethane or PVC – the core of every flex film
Surface (Flex, Flock, Flash, effect)
Smooth, velvety or metallic — feel is the deciding factor
Press temperature & press time
140–160 °C for 15–20 seconds
Every film comes with its own data sheet — but the basic range for PU textile films is between 140 and 160 degrees at 15 to 20 seconds press time and medium press pressure. Pressed too hot or too long, the film contracts, loses gloss and risks carrier-film fusion. Pressed too cold or too briefly, the adhesive layer does not adhere durably — the print detaches at the first 40-degree wash.
Wash durability
40 °C, 60 °C or industrial laundering
Wash durability is the hard currency in the textile decorator's daily work: club jerseys must survive ten seasons, corporate polos weekly 60-degree wash and chef's jackets additionally industrial washing with chemical stress. Most PU standard films are approved for 40 to 60 degrees, premium series like Stahls Premium Plus and Poli-Flex Turbo withstand 60 degrees and multiple tumble-dryer cycles. Industrial washing (boil wash 90+) requires special films with adhesives for higher temperatures.
Stretchability & textile compatibility
For elastic sports and performance fabrics
Sports shirts, jerseys, softshells and sports bras contain Elastanei or nyloni fractions and stretch significantly more when worn and washed than pure Cottoni shirts. Standard flex films will eventually crack - only thin, highly stretchable PU films with Elastane compatibility permanently follow the fabric stretch. For jerseys and sports shirts always choose appropriately labelled films (SportsFilm, Turbo, Nylon-Flex).
Six ways to the right flex film
Whether club youth outfitter, signage business or start-up merch manufactory – here are the curated combinations of base material, surface and wash resistance that work in everyday B2B use.
Club jersey name print
Stretchable PU film with explicit elastane approval, washable at 60 degrees and with long wash resistance for the entire club season. Set up number sets once, plot names individually afterwards. The most reliable basis for club youth outfitters.
Corporate merch with company logo
Matte-satin PU film in company colour, subtle look similar to embroidery, 60-degree washable for commercial use. Prefer reference brands such as Stahls and Poli-Flex – consistent colour reproduction across reorders is critical in the corporate environment.
Hi-vis clothing and reflectivity
3M reflective films with a glass-bead coating, thin enough to process and with sufficient reflective performance for road-traffic visibility. Mandatory for all safety markings with Flex film printing - check the data sheet for approval for the intended application.
Fan shop and statement merchandise
Effect films with high eye-catching value - glitter for the classic stage look, metallic for the premium appearance, hologram for the band shirts statement. Significantly more expensive per metre than standard flex, but visual wow effect and perceived value far above standard printing.
Retro lettering and club crests in flock
Flock films with flocked fibre pile for the classic suede or felt appearance. Significantly thicker than standard flex, with visible texture and high opacity. First choice for club lettering on sweatshirts, college jackets and retro merchandise collections.
Sublimation jerseys with name print
Sublistop films with integrated barrier layer block the migration of the jersey base colour into the pressed name print. Without Sublistop, white on a red jersey turns pink after two washes - with Sublistop, the name print remains permanently colour-stable.
The five most important flex film brands
Five manufacturers cover the majority of the range - from the US reference Stahls via the European volume player Poli-Flex to specialists for flock, transfer carriers and low-cost alternatives. Here is what each brand stands for.
Stahls
The American market leader for flex films - became the standard reference in the USA for sports club name prints and has been the go-to choice for sign-making businesses worldwide for decades. CAD-CUT and CAD-COLOR series cover the complete application spectrum from standard PU through flock, sublistop, reflex, glitter, hologram to silicone and glow-in-the-dark. Premium price level, but reliable wash resistance and consistent colour reproduction across batches.
Poli-Flex
Poli-Tape sub-brand specialising in flocked films – Solvent-Flock for your own printing and Subli-Flock for sublimation transfer onto polyester. Supplements the standard range with velvety fibre-flock applications for upmarket club lettering and retro merch. Processed noticeably thicker than standard flex, with a typical suede-like appearance.
Poli-Tape sub-brand for transfer carriers and transfer films – not self-print, but carrier material for building up multi-layer layer prints and for cleanly transferring adhesive lettering. Standard solution for signage businesses that work with Poli-Flex films in several colour and effect layers.
L-Flex
Affordable flex film brand with focused range – standard PU film with matte surface and explicit 80-degree wash resistance as well as a nylon variant for softshell and functional textiles. For businesses that do not need to serve a premium segment and are looking for a solid basic stock without brand surcharge.
Flex films are product-neutral - the application decides
Unlike textiles themselves, Flex films do not have a Women's, Men's or unisexi split - the film is always identical, regardless of who later wears the decorated garment. What matters is the application.
Unisex
Product-neutral textile finishing
- 44 rolls for every textile type and target audience
- Tool for signage/advertising technology and textile decorators
- Selection by application - not by gender
Which fabric, which cut?
Not every material and not every cut suits every project. Here you will find the right combination.
Polyurethane (PU)
Effect films (reflex, metallic, glitter)
Effect films cover all special applications where the standard PU look is not enough: 3M reflex for warning clothing and fire brigade, metallic and glitter for fan shop special editions and stage merchandise, hologram for streetwear statement, glow-in-the-dark for safety and event applications. Significantly more expensive per roll metre than standard flex, but unbeatable for their specific purposes. Stahls Disco (hologram) and Poli-Flex Luminous (glow) are the established representatives.
Taking responsibility
Organic Cotton, Fairtrade, recycled materials: sustainability is our standard.
Premium PU films from Stahls and Poli-Flex withstand 60-degree washes and several tumble dryer cycles – long service life instead of short-term merch
All standard PU films are optimised for Cottoni and Cotton-blend textiles - the most frequent combination in club-youth and corporate merch
Washing recommendation: consistently without fabric softener - protects the adhesive layer and extends print lifetime in club and corporate daily use
All about Flex films
The standard range for PU textile films is 140 to 160 degrees Celsius at 15 to 20 seconds pressing time and medium contact pressure. Flock tends to require 150 to 160 degrees at 15 to 20 seconds, reflex and metallic films usually 160 degrees at 20 seconds, sublistop films for sublimation textiles frequently 160 degrees at 20 to 25 seconds. The manufacturer's specifications in the data sheet for the respective roll are always binding. Before every new batch we recommend a test press on an offcut - pressed too hot or too long, the film shrinks and loses gloss; pressed too cold or too briefly, the print detaches at the first wash.
When plotting, the film is loaded into the cutter with the carrier down and processed with a contour cut - this way only the film layer is cut through and the carrier stays intact. Before cutting, please always test the pressure and cutting depth on a scrap piece so that the cut is neither too deep (cutting through) nor too shallow (making subsequent weeding impossible). When weeding, use fine tweezers or a weeding hook to remove the excess spaces between the letters and outlines - patient handwork on delicate motifs, done in seconds on simple back numbers. The film is then placed on the textile with the carrier facing up and pressed. After pressing, remove the carrier film either warm (hot peel) or cold (cold peel) as specified in the data sheet.
Flex films are usually supplied in rolls of 500 mm width and 1, 5 or 10 metres in length - depending on manufacturer and colour. For a typical club name with 20 cm width and 5 cm height, you need including weeding reserve about 10 x 25 cm per textile, i.e. 250 square centimetres. From a 1-metre roll 500 mm you thus get about 20 club names - provided you plot economically in rows and leave as little waste as possible. For numbering, a uniform number set (0-9) per colour is recommended, which you can reorder after use. For colours with low demand, choose shorter rolls (1 or 5 metres) - longer rolls with rarely used colours tie up stock capital and become less reactive in the adhesive over time.
