Multifunctional work jackets
The all-weather jacket that stays on the building site in autumn and still keeps you dry in January
90 multifunctional Work jackets from Regatta Professional, Daiber, Result Workguard and other workweari brands - waterproofi from 2,000 mm water column, insulated with 100 to 400 gsm padding, many of them as a 3-in-1 model with a removable fleecei or padded inner jacket. Designed for carpenters, roofers, civil engineering, landscape gardening, facilities, winter road-maintenance and mountain rescue - for team kit with an embroidered or printed company logo.
Explore the rangeWhy the right work jacket replaces three jackets
A multifunction work jacket is rarely the prettiest purchase in the trades, but almost always the most important: it is the jacket that comes onto the scaffolding at 6:30 in November rain, that accompanies the gritting service in the municipal depot in January at minus five degrees and that keeps you dry in landscaping in April during a sudden shower without having to change the waistcoat worn underneath. What technically distinguishes it from a normal outdoor jacket are three things: water column from 2,000 mm with sealed seamsi (instead of pure DWR impregnation), a padded or removable fleecei inner jacket in a 3-in-1 build (softshelli + winter combination in one product) and a pocket layout tailored to tools and gloves - not to ski passes. A roofer working in the rain without glued seams is wet through to the underwear after two hours, an electrician on winter service duty without a storm flapi at the front loses body heat through the zip, and a carpenter without reinforced elbows re-orders the jacket after one season. Here we show you which water column suffices for which trade, when a 3-in-1 system pays off and which brands have established themselves in trade businesses and the municipal sector - so that your team kit does not need to be replaced after the first rainy season.

What you can do with our Multifunctional work jackets
From band merch to corporate identity – the right model is the basis for a thousand ideas.
Roofers & carpenters in persistent rain
Anyone working eight hours outdoors daily needs Isotex 10,000: the Regatta Professional Northdale (RG245) with Warmloft insulation and waterproofi membrane keeps you dry even in continuous November rain - reinforced elbows and drawstring-adjustable hood complement the construction site focus.
Municipal depot & winter road service
For actual gritting-service duty in sub-zero temperatures, the Sabre pilot jacket (RT300) from Result Workguard with 320 g/m² padding is the pragmatic base kit — warm, robust, with large reflective elements on the back and sleeves for visibility on road duty.
Trades team kit with 3-in-1
The classic for the trade business with mixed deployment: the Regatta Defender III (RG1300) 3-in-1 jacket replaces the separate rain and winter jacket. Inner jacket stays with the customer in the car, outer jacket goes to the building site - one product for all weather and deployment scenarios.
Facility management & works security
For year-round outdoor use in facility and security services, the Korntex Oslo pilot jacket (KX809) with removable inner lining is the flexible solution: four combination variants in one jacket, robust construction and enough pockets for radio, mobile phone and paperwork.
Sustainable indoor assembly & CSR kitting
For CSR-oriented businesses with an indoor assembly focus, Neutral's sustainable twilli jacket (NE67701) made of GOTS-certified organic cottoni is the vegan and fairly produced alternative - less waterproofi than PU polyesteri, but the right choice for light outdoor use with sustainability positioning.
Electrical & plumbing customer service
For customer service with frequent trips from the vehicle to the customer, the Regatta Hydroforce Softshelli (RG650) is the lightweight and water-repellenti base — warm enough for autumn customer service, breathablei enough for climbing stairs and light enough for all-day use.
What the multi-function work jacket properties really mean
So that you can make a well-founded decision: here we explain the five most important product features of a multifunctional work jacket in detail – with their significance, sensible applications and concrete buying tips.
Water column & waterproofness
How much water the fabric withstands before it lets through
The water column is given in millimetres and measures at what water pressure the fabric becomes permeable. 2,000 mm is sufficient for short showers, 5,000 mm is the construction site standard; from 10,000 mm we speak of genuine rainwear quality for roofers, winter service and mountain rescue. Pure DWR impregnation (without PU coatingi) holds off at most light drizzle - for continuous rain you need sealed seamsi and a coatedi membrane.
3-in-1 construction and removable inner jacket
Softshell, winter jacket and combo in one product
With the 3-in-1 system, a fleecei or padded inner jacket is zipped into the waterproofi outer jacket. The result: in autumn you wear only the outer jacket (rain protection), in spring only the inner jacket (warmth without rain), and in winter both together (full kit). A 3-in-1 system replaces two jackets in the business and makes switching between indoor installation work and the construction site straightforward.
Padding & insulation
How warm the jacket keeps at which temperature
The padding is specified in g/m2. 100 g/m2 is autumn level (down to about +5 degrees), 200 g/m2 covers mild winter (0 to +10 degrees), 300 to 400 g/m2 is real winter padding for continuous use at sub-zero temperatures. Besides the pure fabric weight, the insulation zone matters: padding that sits at the torso and leaves the sleeves thinner gives freedom of movement without compromising on warmth.
Pockets & features
Tools, phone and hand warmer within reach
What distinguishes a multi-function work jacket from an outdoor jacket are the pockets: chest zip pocket for phone and papers, Napoleon inside pocket for wallet, hand-warmer pockets at the sides with fleecei lining, large front flap pockets for tools or gloves. Reflective stripes on sleeves and back increase visibility in the dark - on the construction site and in road traffic.
Material & membrane
Why 100% Polyester dominates the workwear sector
43 of the 90 multifunctional Work jackets are made from 100% Polyesteri - for good reason: Polyester dries quickly, holds its colour stably over many washes, is tear-resistant and can be waterproof-coated with a PU membrane. The modern alternative is Elastanei blends with a stretch component (2-way or 4-way stretch) - significantly more freedom of movement for overhead work and squats. Pure Cottoni models are rare and only worth considering for specific applications with a sweat-friendly requirement (Organic Cottoni customers, twilli look).
Six ways to the right multi-function work jacket
Whether carpenter crew, winter service or facility – here are the curated combinations of water column, padding and brand that work in everyday B2B use.
3-in-1 year-round system for trade teams
Waterproof outer jacket plus removable fleece or quilted inner jacket - in spring only the inner jacket, in autumn only the outer jacket, in winter combined. Brands with established 3-in-1 systems and sufficient repeat availability for team kits.
Waterproof 10,000 mm for roofers & winter service
Isotex water column from 10,000 mm with fully sealed seams — the uncompromising choice for roofers, municipal-depot gritting service, mountain rescue and anyone in continuous rain. Reinforced hood with drawcord adjustment and waterproof zips on the front and pockets.
Heated for extreme use in sub-zero temperatures
Integrated heating elements in the back and chest area, battery-powered with three heat levels and around eight hours of runtime on the medium setting. The uncompromising kit for extreme deployment, when padding alone is no longer enough.
Softshell with stretch for overhead trades
3-layer softshell with an elastane content and 4-way stretch - stretches in every direction and makes squats, overhead movements and torso rotation noticeably easier. Water-repellent and windproof without the stiffness of a classic waterproof jacket.
Cordura-reinforced for carpenters & roofers
Cordura fabric at the elbows and shoulder area – the most abrasion-resistant polyamide fabric in workwear. Withstands daily work on rough surfaces (bricks, concrete, roof battens) for years. The STRONG line from Daiber is the benchmark cut in this segment.
Sustainable CSR kitting with organic cotton
Organic cotton twill with GOTS certification, vegan production and a fair supply chain – the sustainability alternative to the classic polyester jacket. Less waterproof than PU-coated polyester, but the right choice for indoor installation and light outdoor use with visible sustainability positioning.
The most important multifunction work jacket brands
Five manufacturers cover over 80% of all orders in the multifunction work jacket range - from British outdoor workweari leadership via German basic range brands to EU workwear and German industrial classic. Here is what each brand stands for.
British brand that has grown from the outdoor segment (mountaineering, hiking) into the workwear sector, bringing Isotex membrane technology with it. Leading on 3-in-1 systems (Kingsley, Defender), on genuinely waterproof Isotex 10,000 models and on heated jackets (Thermogen Powercell). Consistent range extension every season and high availability over years.
Daiber
German brand from the Daiber group with a focus on softshell and hybrid work jackets of the James & Nicholson brand. The STRONG line is the reference for Cordura-reinforced trade jackets, the Craftsmen series covers the classic construction site segment. German distribution, short reorder times and stable fit over the years.
EU workwear brand with good value for money, particularly in the Sabre pilot jacket range. The Work-Guard series covers the classic trade need without charging the premium prices of the British and German competitors. First choice for price-sensitive team kits with solid quality demands.
['German industrial workwear brand with a focus on robustness and works-laundry suitability - the classic choice for manufacturing industrial businesses with a laundry cycle. Conservative, understated design and durable workmanship, less focused on zeitgeist trends than the British brands, but with a very stable range over the years.']
Alongside the larger Daiber models, James & Nicholson also carries four models directly under the brand marking – Doubleface jackets, hybrid models with BIONIC-FINISH-ECO treatment and Sherpa inner lining. The focus is on functional combinations of softshell, fleece and waterproof membrane in one product.

Which fabric, which cut?
Not every material and not every cut suits every project. Here you will find the right combination.
100% polyester with PU membrane
With 43 models, the dominant material combination in the multifunctional work jacket range: 100% polyesteri outer fabric with PU membrane coatingi – waterproofi from 2,000 mm water column (up to 10,000 mm in Isotex variants), form-stable at 40-degree wash and colourfast over many wash cycles. The reliable standard for team kitting with reordering over years – dries quickly after rain and washing machine, is tear-resistant and can be cleanly finished with embroidery.
Elastane blended fabric with 4-way stretch
Polyester-elastane blended fabrici with 2- or 4-way stretch – stretches in all directions and makes squats, arm-lift movements and torso rotation noticeably easier. The modern answer to the classic stiff softshelli, especially in the Regatta 4TEX series (RG5350, RG745) and the Sabre Stretch from Result Workguard (RT302). For electricians, scaffolders and plumbing service technicians with a lot of overhead work, the significantly more comfortable choice.
Cordura and polyamide reinforcements
Cordura is the most abrasion-resistant polyamidei fabric in workweari – used at the elbows, shoulders and pocket openings where mechanical stress is highest. The STRONG line from Daiber (JN824, JN842, JN844) and the ripstopi series from Result Workguard (RT124) are the benchmark models with Cordura reinforcement. Extends the jacket's lifespan by years – particularly important for carpenters, roofers and screed layers who work daily on rough surfaces.
Heated systems with Thermogen Powercell
Integrated heating elements in the back and chest area, battery-powered with three heat levels and around eight hours of runtime on the medium setting. Regatta Professional offers this technology under the name Thermogen Powercell in several jackets (RG2100, RG739) — the uncompromising kit for winter road service, mountain rescue and gritting service in sustained double-digit sub-zero temperatures, when padding alone is no longer enough.
Organic cotton twill (niche alternative)
The sustainable alternative to the classic polyesteri jacket - Neutral's twilli jacket (NE67701) made of GOTS-certified organic cottoni, vegan and produced in a fair supply chain. Less waterproofi than PU-coated polyester, but the right choice for indoor assembly, light outdoor work and for CSR-oriented businesses that also want to document sustainability on the inner label. NGO, organic specialist trade and environmental initiative clientele is the clear core need here.
Taking responsibility
Organic Cotton, Fairtrade, recycled materials: sustainability is our standard.
Isotex models from Regatta Professional — the benchmark quality for roofers and continuous-rain deployment
Neutral's GOTS-certified twilli jacket as a vegan, fairly produced CSR alternative in the range
Two individually wearable jackets in one product - replaces up to three separate purchases in the company
Winter padding up to 400 g/m² for municipal depot, winter service and mountain rescue in extreme deployment
All about Multifunctional work jackets
Colloquially 'waterproofi' starts at 1,500 to 2,000 mm water column - enough for short showers and light drizzle. For the construction site standard you should choose at least 5,000 mm, combined with taped seams. From 10,000 mm we speak of true rain-jacket quality for continuous rain - that is the Isotex class from Regatta Professional, which is the right choice for roofers, winter service and mountain rescue. Important: without taped seams the highest water column is useless because water enters through the needle holes of the seams. DWR impregnation (the beading effect of water rolling off) is not waterproofing, only water repellency - after 20 to 30 washes it must be re-treated with Nikwax or Grangers.
A 3-in-1 jacket is a system of two separately wearable jackets connected by a zip: the waterproofi outer jacket (rain and wind protection) and a removable inner jacket - either as fleecei or as padded softshelli. In autumn you wear only the outer jacket, in spring only the inner jacket, in winter both together as full kit. The advantage over a simple winter jacket: with one purchase you replace two or three jackets in the wardrobe and can react flexibly to weather and location. The Regatta Professional Kingsley (RG1430) and the Defender III (RG1300) are the reference models in the 3-in-1 segment. When purchasing, make sure that the outer and inner jackets are ordered in the same size - otherwise it will pinch when worn together.
For actual winter road-service duty in sub-zero temperatures, we recommend at least 300 g/m² padding, combined with a sherpa inner lining at the collar and a waterproofi outer fabric from 5,000 mm water column. The Regatta Professional Northdale (RG245) with Warmloft insulation and the Sabre pilot jacket from Result Workguard (RT300) with 320 g/m² are proven models for municipal-depot winter service. For extreme deployment in sustained double-digit sub-zero temperatures — gritting service with long standing phases, mountain rescue, winter THW deployment — the heated models with Thermogen Powercell technology (RG2100, RG739) are the benchmark. These have integrated heating elements in the back and chest area, battery-powered with three heat levels and around eight hours of runtime on the medium setting.
Softshelli jackets are water-repellenti (not waterproofi), windproofi and breathablei - they are lighter, more comfortable to wear and ideal for everything that isn't continuous rain: indoor installation with a route to the vehicle, sales field work, electrical field service and the transitional periods in spring and autumn. Waterproof jackets with PU membrane (RG301, RT118, RT124) are mandatory for anyone working in continuous rain: roofers, carpenters on structural work, landscaping and civil engineering. Rule of thumb: if you stand in the rain twice a week for more than an hour, you need a waterproof jacket - otherwise a high-quality softshell is sufficient. The Regatta Professional Hydroforce (RG650) and the 3-layer softshell RG745 are the reference softshells in the trades segment.
For multifunction work jackets, we recommend embroidery instead of printing - the embroidery withstands rain, Nikwax re-impregnation and frequent cleaning cycles better than print films, which can detach at the edges. Standard positions are the left chest (company logo, about 8 to 10 cm) and the back (company name with slogan, up to 25 cm). Important: on waterproofi membrane jackets, only positions outside the rain protection zone should be embroidered - every needle perforation in the membrane area theoretically reduces waterproofing. In practice, our embroidery partners additionally seal the back of the embroidery with a waterproof film. For club and corporate orders from 15 pieces, we can offer personalisation directly. Allow an additional delivery time of about ten working days for finishing.
Multifunctional work jackets tolerate machine washing at 30 to 40 degrees – please consistently avoid fabric softener, because it destroys the DWR impregnation and clogs the pores of the membrane. Use a special technical wash agent such as Nikwax Tech Wash or a normal liquid detergent without fabric softener content. After twenty to thirty washes the water-repellenti effect wears off – then re-impregnate with Nikwax TX.Directi or Grangers Performance Repel. Tumble drying at low setting additionally reactivates the DWR impregnation (only if the manufacturer approves tumble drying). Never iron, never dry clean. Pull hood and cuffs smoothly into shape and allow to dry flat, otherwise edges and drawstring channels will curl. On 3-in-1 systems, always wash the inner jacket separately – fleecei and waterproofi outer jacket have different wash requirements.
With 33 models, Regatta Professional is the market leader in the range – the British outdoor workweari brand offers the widest selection of 3-in-1 systems (Kingsley, Defender), Isotex waterproofing and heated models (Thermogen Powercell). Daiber (brand James & Nicholson) follows with 21 models and a focus on softshelli jackets with Cordura reinforcements – the STRONG line is the German answer to the British Isotex series. Result Workguard (11 models) is the EU workwear alternative with good price-performance ratio, especially in the Sabre pilot jacket series. Terrax Workwear (4 models) is the German industrial classic with a focus on robustness and industrial-laundry suitability. James & Nicholson (4 models directly under the brand) rounds off the offer with Doubleface and hybrid models. For team kitting in the trades, we advise Regatta Professional for 3-in-1 requirements, Daiber for Cordura focus and Result Workguard for price-sensitive orders.
Yes, distinctly. 11 of the 90 multi-function work jackets have a genuine Women's cut rather than a scaled-down unisexi size. The difference lies in narrower shoulders, a tailored back and sleeve construction oriented towards women's anatomies — the Kingsley 3-in-1 Women's jacket from Regatta (RG1440) and the Isotex 10,000 Women's version (RG148) are the benchmark models. For mixed teams in the trades, landscaping and facility management, we consistently recommend kitting out the female team members in Women's cuts — unisex models often do not fit in the shoulder and back area at smaller garment sizes and therefore do not sit wind-proof at the collar. For the order, please provide a separate Women's/Men's count with Size allocation.
