amfori BSCI
Also known as: BSCI, Business Social Compliance Initiative
Auditing programme of the Brussels-based trade association amfori for social standards in global supply chains — with more than 2,400 retail and brand members, Europe's largest social audit network.
Description
The Business Social Compliance Initiative — since a 2018 rebrand amfori BSCI — was founded in Brussels in 2003 by the Foreign Trade Association and is today Europe's largest social audit programme. Owner is amfori, an association of more than 2,400 trading and brand companies — from Aldi, Rewe and Migros through C&A and H&M to Fielmann and IKEA.
BSCI is not a certification but a factory audit system: supplier factories of member firms are assessed against the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct covering eleven ILO-based principles (freedom of association, fair remuneration, decent working hours, occupational safety, prohibition of child and forced labour, no discrimination, ethical business behaviour, environmental protection, etc.). Audits are carried out by accredited external bodies (SGS, TÜV, Bureau Veritas, Intertek) and receive a rating from A (very good) to E (insufficient). Results are accessible to all member firms via the amfori Sustainability Platform — share once, use many times — avoiding duplicate audits. BSCI is complemented by amfori BEPI for environmental performance.
