Description
B Corp (Certified B Corporation) is a company-wide certification by the US non-profit B Lab. It evaluates companies holistically rather than per product, across five dimensions: governance, workers, community, environment and customers/product. The assessment uses the extensive B Impact Assessment (BIA) with around 200 industry-specific questions. Certification requires a minimum of 80 out of 200 points plus a legal change anchoring social/environmental goals in the company's articles of association.
In the textile sector, Patagonia, Allbirds, Eileen Fisher, Kathmandu, Faguo and others hold B Corp status. Re-certification is required every three years. B Corp complements product-based labels such as GOTS or Bluesign by making the entire corporate governance transparent — it is not itself a textile or product label in the narrow sense.
