Control Union certification

Internationally active Dutch certification body auditing and issuing many of the key textile labels (GOTS, OCS, GRS, RCS) on behalf of the standard owners.
Description
Control Union Certifications (CU), headquartered in Zwolle (Netherlands), is one of the largest independent certification bodies worldwide with more than 70 country offices. It is not itself a standard owner but an auditing body that carries out audits and issues certificates on behalf of standard owners such as GOTS, Textile Exchange (OCS, GRS, RCS), FSC and various organic programmes.
On textile labels CU usually appears as certifier next to the label logo, e.g. "certified by Control Union CU-XXXXXX". For end consumers the certifier name is important because it enables real traceability: through the database on the Control Union website anyone can enter the licence number and verify whether the operator is actually validly certified.
Besides textiles CU also operates in food (EU organic regulation, Rainforest Alliance) and raw-material trade (RSPO for palm oil). Accreditation follows ISO 17065 through national accreditation bodies (in Germany: DAkkS). Its main competitor is Ecocert (France).
