Cradle to Cradle Certified® - levels Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum
Also known as: C2C levels
Four certification tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) within the C2C system of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (Oakland/San Francisco) — overall rating = lowest category score.
Description
The Cradle to Cradle Certified® programme (administered by the non-profit Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, Oakland, California) rates products on their circular economy performance in five categories: Material Health, Product Circularity, Clean Air & Climate Protection, Water & Soil Stewardship, Social Fairness. Each category receives a tier from Bronze to Platinum — the lowest category score determines the overall certification level.
The four tiers (current version 4.0 released in 2021) are: Bronze — basic entry requirements, material inventory established; Silver — demonstrable reduction of problematic substances and first steps of a circular model; Gold — largely biologically or technically recyclable, take-back logistics in place, high share of renewable energy; Platinum — highest tier with fully positive material footprint, climate-positive production and active take-back. Textile products with C2C certification are marketed by, among others, Trigema (Silver), C&A (Gold t-shirts) and Puma (Bronze). Certificates are valid for two years.
