GOLS — Global Organic Latex Standard
Also known as: GOLS, Organic latex certification
Global organic standard for natural rubber latex — 95 % certified organic latex, processing and social criteria across the whole supply chain.
Description
The Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) is the leading global organic standard for natural rubber latex. It was developed by Control Union Certifications and is issued by accredited bodies worldwide. A GOLS-certified end product (mattress, pillow, latex apparel element, latex foam) must consist of at least 95 % certified organic latex; the remaining up to 5 % may come from permitted materials. The standard covers the entire supply chain – from organically managed rubber tree plantation soil (Hevea brasiliensis) through processing (vulcanisation, moulding) to make-up and labelling.
In addition to ecological requirements (no synthetic pesticides, no GMO, limit values for heavy metals and VOCs), GOLS also defines social minimum requirements: no child labour, freedom of association, living wage, safe working conditions (aligned with ILO conventions). The certification is usually compatible with GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) – products combining organic cotton cover + organic latex core often carry both labels at the same time.
