Higg Brand & Retail Module (BRM)
Also known as: Higg BRM, Cascale BRM
Self-assessment tool from the Higg Index family for brands and retailers — measures sustainability strategy, sourcing, retail and consumer communication.
Description
The Higg Brand & Retail Module (BRM) is part of the Higg Index tool family developed and operated by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), rebranded to Cascale in 2024. While the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM) and Materials Sustainability Index (MSI) focus on factories and materials respectively, the BRM assesses a brand's or retailer's sustainability performance at the company level.
The BRM covers seven core areas: management systems, sourcing, design and development, responsible manufacturing, retail and fashion, end-of-use, plus customer relationships and communication. Results are used internally for steering and, after third-party verification, for external reporting to investors, regulators (EU CSRD) and consumers.
- Operator: Cascale (formerly SAC), together with Higg Inc.
- Target audience: fashion brands, sports goods manufacturers, textile retailers
- Assessment areas: 7 sections, several hundred questions
- Verification: third-party (Higg Verified) for external communication
