Description
ISO 14001 is the world's most widely used standard for environmental management systems. First published in 1996, the current edition dates from 2015. Publisher is the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) based in Geneva; in Germany it is distributed as DIN EN ISO 14001:2015.
The standard follows the so-called High Level Structure shared with ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 45001 (health & safety), which makes it easy to embed in integrated management systems. Certified facilities must systematically identify their environmental aspects (energy and water consumption, emissions, waste, chemicals), set measurable environmental targets, capture legal obligations, assess risks and establish a continuous improvement process (PDCA). In the textile industry ISO 14001 is particularly relevant for dye houses, printers, garment factories and logistics sites. Certificates are issued by accredited bodies (TÜV, DEKRA, Bureau Veritas, DNV) for three years with annual surveillance audits.
