Description
ISO 45001:2018 is the first globally applicable ISO standard for occupational health and safety management systems and replaces the previously dominant British norm OHSAS 18001. The transition period ended in September 2021; since then ISO 45001 has been the world's authoritative reference.
Certified organisations must establish a systematic process for identifying hazards, risks and legal requirements, define health and safety objectives, ensure worker participation (which OHSAS 18001 did not require as explicitly), regulate emergency preparedness and incident investigation, and implement continuous improvement. In the textile industry ISO 45001 is particularly relevant in garment factories (needle, iron and cutting hazards), dye houses (chemical exposure) and industrial laundries (steam, ergonomic strain). It is often certified together with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 as an integrated management system. Certificates are valid for three years with annual surveillance audits.
