Description
PETA-Approved Vegan is a globally used labelling programme of the animal-rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA, based in Norfolk, Virginia). Companies may carry the logo on products or entire collections that contain no wool, leather, fur, down, feathers, silk, cashmere, angora, pearls, horn or any other animal-derived materials.
Verification is a written self-declaration with supplier statements — no on-site audit. PETA-Approved Vegan is therefore not a social or environmental label but purely proof of animal-free content. For consumers it is the most visible vegan-fashion mark worldwide; since 2013 more than a thousand brands have joined, including many sneaker and streetwear labels. Particularly relevant for the textile industry in vegan leather bags, plant-based footwear, synthetic down and non-wool knitwear.
