STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is the oldest and best-known independent testing and certification system for textiles regarding harmful substances. Founded in 1992 by the Hohenstein Group and ÖTI (Vienna), it is now issued worldwide by around 20 independent institutes of the OEKO-TEX® Association. The end product is tested in all its components: outer fabric, lining, sewing thread, buttons, zippers, prints and coatings.

The criteria catalogue covers more than 1,000 regulated substances and is updated annually, including AZO dyes, formaldehyde, pesticides, chlorophenols, phthalates, nickel, heavy metals and PFC. Limit values are stricter than legal requirements (REACH). Four product classes reflect skin-contact intensity — class I (baby items) is the strictest, class IV (furnishings) the mildest. Important: STANDARD 100 says nothing about social or ecological manufacturing conditions — it is pure product safety.
