STeP by OEKO-TEX®
Also known as: OEKO-TEX STeP, Sustainable Textile & Leather Production
Modular certification of sustainable production facilities in the textile and leather chain — assesses chemistry, environment, quality and social conditions of the factory.
Description
STeP by OEKO-TEX® (Sustainable Textile & Leather Production) certifies entire production facilities — not single products. It covers every step of the chain: spinning mills, weaving mills, knitting mills, dye houses, printers, garment factories, tanneries and industrial laundries. The aim is lasting implementation of sustainable manufacturing through permanent chemicals management, resource efficiency and fair social conditions.
STeP is assessed in six modules: (1) chemical management, (2) environmental performance, (3) environmental management, (4) social responsibility, (5) quality management and (6) occupational health & safety. Each module scores up to 100 points and three levels are awarded: level 1 (entry), level 2 (good practice), level 3 (best practice). Certificates are valid for three years with yearly audits. STeP factories are also a prerequisite for the product label MADE IN GREEN.
