Description
Workwear covers all garments developed for professional use in craft, industrial, agricultural, medical and logistics environments. It differs from corporate wear by its clear functional focus: durability, knee-pad pockets, reinforced seams, many tool pockets, wipe-clean surfaces and ergonomic cuts for squatting, kneeling, climbing and bending.
An important segment is personal protective equipment (PPE), subject to additional normative requirements: EN ISO 20471 (high-visibility clothing), EN ISO 11612 (heat and flame protection), EN 13034 (chemical protection), EN 1149 (antistatic) and EN 471 (safety vests). Such PPE is subject to Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and must carry the CE mark.
Important European manufacturers are Kübler, Engelbert Strauss, Blakläder, Fristads, Mascot, Uvex, Portwest, Dickies and Snickers. Trade classically runs through specialist dealers and PPE outfitters, but increasingly also direct (D2C) and via online marketplaces. Trends: sustainable materials (recycled polyester, organic cotton), stretch content, Cordura® reinforcements and ergonomic, more feminine women's lines.
