Cowl neckline

Softly draping neckline with horizontal folds like a waterfall.
Description
The cowl neckline is created by a very wide neckline in the cut, whose excess fabric width drapes downward in several soft horizontal folds. The folds move while wearing and create the characteristic waterfall effect that gives the German name.
Softly draping fabrics such as jersey, viscose, modal, fine wool or chiffon are used; firm fabrics do not work because they will not form the folds. The neckline can begin close to the base of the neck (soft cowl) or drape deeply down to the chest (deep cowl). Classically it appears on jersey shirts, dresses and fine knit pullovers.
