Henley neckline
Also known as: Henley placket
Collarless round neckline with a short two- to four-button placket.
Description
The Henley neckline is a collarless round neckline with a short button placket – typically two to four buttons – in the middle of the chest. It comes from the uniform of the rowers of Henley-on-Thames and became popular as a sports shirt in the late 19th century. The name refers to the storied Henley Royal Regatta on the Thames.
The Henley shirt is today a timeless basic between T-shirt and polo shirt. It is often made in heavy cotton or waffle piqué quality and works in casual and smart-casual contexts. The placket can be concealed or visible.
