Off-shoulder Carmen neckline

Off-shoulder, often elastic neckline with a flounce or gathered band.
Description
The Carmen neckline sits wide below the shoulders and leaves collarbones and upper shoulders bare. It is usually made elastic with a rubber band or drawstring and often trimmed with a running flounce. The name goes back to Bizet's opera Carmen and the Spanish blouses shown in it; in French it is named after Brigitte Bardot.
The neckline looks summery, romantic and feminine. It suits blouses, dresses, jerseys and summer tops and is equally popular in cotton, viscose and chiffon. Structurally the neckline needs a stretchy upper edge or tie construction to keep it from slipping.
