Oversized fit
Also known as: Oversize
Deliberately over-sized fit with markedly dropped shoulders and deep armholes.
Description
Oversized fit is a cut deliberately several sizes too large. It differs from relaxed fit through markedly dropped shoulders, deep armholes and a wide body cut. The silhouette is voluminous, relaxed and deliberately casual.
The look comes from streetwear and hip-hop culture of the 1980s and 1990s and has been mainstream again since the mid-2010s. Structurally the cut is often combined with a drop-shoulder seam, a longer body and wide cuffs. Popular materials are heavy sweat, French terry or heavyweight cotton because these fabrics support the volume.
