Description
The Peter Pan collar is a flat collar that lies against shoulders and chest, with characteristically rounded corners. It appeared in women's fashion in the early 20th century and, together with the bobbed hairstyle, became a fashion symbol of the emancipated woman in the 1920s. It was often kept in white as a calm contrast to the dress fabric.
Its English name refers to the theatrical role of Peter Pan from 1905, whose costume featured a similarly shaped collar. Today the Peter Pan collar is used on blouses, dresses, children's clothing and retro-inspired collections.
