Racerback

Back cut in Y or T shape leaving the shoulder blades exposed.
Description
The racerback is a distinctive back cut in which the straps run V-shaped or straight from the front neckline to the back and meet at the upper back before the shoulder blades in a narrow central bridge. The result: a Y- or T-shaped back cut that leaves shoulder blades, nape and much of the shoulder musculature exposed.
Structurally the racerback is worked with narrow straps (typically 2 to 4 cm) and the connection point at the upper back is placed high so bra straps are not visible. On sports racerbacks the design is deliberately athletic, on fashion tanks it is more decorative.
The racerback originated in swimming (hence 'swim back'): it leaves shoulder blades and trapezius completely free, allowing full arm strokes. Today it is standard on sport tank tops, yoga tops, running vests, fitness bras and marathon shirts.
Compared to a classic tank top cut the racerback straps lie closer to the middle of the neck rather than on the outer shoulder. It looks sportier and allows more freedom of movement.
