Scoop neck

The scoop neck is a deeper cut variant of the classic round neckline. It runs in a wide arc that reaches further into the décolletage or onto the chest than the standard crew neck. Typical depth is 8 to 15 cm below the neckline, width usually extends to just short of the shoulder line.

Structurally the scoop is created by a generous curve in the front piece. The neckline is usually finished with a narrow rib band, bound facing or turned hem. On T-shirts and baselayers a ribbed knit is often used to keep the neckline stable.

The scoop emphasises the collarbone line and the upper chest. In women's fashion it is a classic on sport tops, yoga shirts and casual T-shirts. In menswear it appears on fashion T-shirts and baselayer shirts. The scoop looks softer and more feminine than a V-neck and more casual than a crew neck.

Compared to the classic round neck the scoop is much deeper and wider. Compared to the V-neck it has no point but a continuous arc. The scoop suits leisurewear, yoga and fitness shirts and layering under open blouses or blazers.
