Square neckline

The square neckline, in French called carré, runs in two vertical side lines and a horizontal lower edge to form a rectangular opening. It emphasises the collarbones and shoulder area and looks structured and modern. Classically the square neck is used on summer blouses, dresses and strap tops.

Structurally the square neckline is either cut in one piece and finished with bias binding or worked as an applied cut-out, in which the corners are reinforced with bar tacks. The clear geometry contrasts elegantly with softly draping fabrics.
