Tab collar
Also known as: Tab collar, Strap collar
Shirt collar with a small inner tab that pushes the tie knot forward under the collar.
Description
The tab collar features two small fabric straps behind the collar points that are joined by a button or press stud. They sit behind the tie and gently push the tie knot forward. The result is a particularly tidy, elegant silhouette with a prominent knot.
The tab collar was especially popular in the 1930s and 1960s and remains a formal business detail today. It is always worn with a tie; without a tie the strap looks awkward. Collar stays are rarely integrated because the tab itself keeps the collar in position.
- Small, mostly hidden fastening tab
- Requires a tie
- Compact knot such as four-in-hand
