Wing collar

Stand collar with small folded-out points, used on formal evening shirts.
Description
The wingtip or wing collar is a stand collar with two small points folded forward. It is used almost exclusively for formal evening wear: classically with a white tie shirt, on tuxedo shirts with a bow tie, or with cutaway morning suits. The collar band is usually two to three centimetres high, and the wings project about one centimetre beyond the band.
Historically the wing collar developed from the detachable starched collar of the 19th century, when its stiff discomfort earned it the nickname 'father-killer' in German. Today it is a deliberately traditional detail for very formal occasions.
