Cold pad-batch fixation
Also known as: Cold pad-batch, CPB dyeing, Cold dwell process
Continuous reactive dyeing process without added heat — extremely water- and energy-saving with excellent fastness.
Description
Cold pad-batch (CPB) is a continuous dyeing process for cellulosic fibres such as cotton, linen, viscose and lyocell using reactive dyes. The fabric is impregnated with dye liquor and alkali, squeezed off, batched onto a roll and rotated slowly at room temperature for several hours. Dye-fibre bonding takes place without added heat, driven purely by the alkaline reaction.
The benefits versus thermal exhaust dyeing are substantial: roughly 50 % less water, up to 90 % less process steam and lower salt consumption. Colour yield is high, wet fastness excellent, and the treatment is particularly gentle on delicate cotton-elastane fabrics. Drawbacks are long dwell times (up to 24 h) and a limited shade range.
- Up to 50 % water and 90 % energy savings vs exhaust dyeing
- Very good wet and rub fastness
- Ideal for cellulosic fibres
- Requires long dwell time on the batch roll
