420D polyester
Also known as: 420D pack cloth
Rugged 420-denier polyester, common in hiking packs and reinforcement panels.
Description
420D polyester is a medium-to-heavy fabric at 190-240 g/m2, sitting between 300D and 600D and often paired with 600D to combine abrasion-resistant shells and flexible flap panels. Beyond hiking packs it appears in bicycle bags, school kits and tool bags. Martindale abrasion is typically 25,000-35,000 cycles; PU coatings reach 3000-5000 mm hydrostatic head. In workwear it reinforces elbows, knees and bottoms of tool modules. It laser-cuts and marks well. For chemical resistance it beats nylon variants thanks to better UV and hydrolysis stability. Its main competitor is 420D ballistic nylon, slightly higher tear strength but poorer UV resistance.
