70D nylon

Very light nylon fabric for ultralight tents, down jackets and rain trousers.
Description
70D nylon is one of the lightest technical textiles at 40-70 g/m2. It uses polyamide 6.6 filaments of 70 denier in ripstop weave to keep tear propagation low despite the thin yarn. Uses: ultralight tents, backpack stuff sacks, down jacket and sleeping-bag shells, and lightweight rain wear. In workwear it appears in summer layers and packable emergency rain jackets. With silicone or PU coating it reaches 1500-3000 mm hydrostatic head per EN ISO 811 at minimal weight. Downsides: low abrasion resistance (5,000-8,000 Martindale) and UV sensitivity. Not certifiable as EN ISO 20471 hi-vis base fabric due to the thin yarn; only used as inner layer. Hand is papery and crinkly, accepted in ultralight use.
