Bar-tack / toggle fastener

A toggle or bar fastener links two pieces via an elongated peg passed through a loop. It originates from naval and military clothing where it had to be operated with heavy gloves. Today it appears on duffel bags, alpine coats and outdoor parkas as a robust, decorative zipper alternative. The bar can be wood, horn, plastic or metal; the loop is usually cord or leather. Pros: robustness, easy repair and premium look. Cons: slower operation and poor wind-blocking without inner storm flap. Industrial tests typically target 200-500 N tensile / bending strength.
