Cam buckle
Also known as: cam-lock buckle, cam lock
One-piece metal or plastic buckle with a spring-loaded cam that clamps a webbing strap — quickly adjustable without unthreading.
Description
The cam buckle (also cam-lock buckle) tensions and locks a webbing strap by a spring-loaded, toothed cam. To release, the cam is lifted with the thumb; the webbing then slides freely or can be pulled out completely. Unlike a ratchet, there is no stepped tensioning — the cam buckle is a pure clamping element.
Being classed as non-self-locking, it is not approved for dynamic or safety-critical loads (lashing points per EN 12195 require ratchets). In leisure and light-duty use, cam buckles are popular thanks to their quick operation: backpack compression, ski touring straps, small car tie-downs, yoga-mat straps.

- Not for load securing in road transport per EN 12195
