EN 1150:1999

EN 1150:1999 covers hi-vis clothing for non-professional use, notably children and leisure cyclists. Unlike EN ISO 20471, which is PPE category II, EN 1150 assumes a lower risk level and sets smaller minimum areas of fluorescent and retroreflective material. It is the norm behind many school vests and leisure safety sashes. Beyond fluo yellow, other strong fluo colors are allowed and reflective stripes may be shorter and simpler. EN 1150 does not replace occupational PPE certification: professional work on public roads needs EN ISO 20471 or EN ISO 17353. An EN ISO 20471 vest is fully accepted for leisure and usually exceeds EN 1150 requirements. Integration into the EN 17353 family has been proposed.
