EN 14058:2017
Also known as: light cold protection, cool environment garments
Standard for garments protecting against cool environments down to -5 C; complements EN 342 upward.
Description
EN 14058:2017 covers single garments for protection against cool environments down to -5 C and is the little sister of EN 342, which starts below that. Unlike EN 342, single garments are tested, not the full system: thermal resistance Rct in four classes 1 to 4 (class 4 was added in 2017 to close the gap to EN 342), air permeability in three classes 1 to 3, optional Icler insulation and water tightness. The 2017 update also added tear strength, burst pressure and shrinkage after washing requirements. Typical products are softshells, fleece jackets and winter vests for logistics, construction and field work. As PPE category II the standard is used alone or combined with others (e.g. EN ISO 20471 for hi-vis). The 2017 base has since been superseded by DIN EN 14058:2023-07.
