EN 407:2020
Also known as: glove standard heat and flame
Standard for gloves against thermal risks; six-digit code flame, contact, convective, radiant, small and large molten metal.
Description
EN 407:2020 covers protective gloves and other hand PPE against thermal risks from heat and fire (not firefighting or welding, which have their own standards). The flame pictogram carries a six-digit code: A burning behaviour (after-flame and after-glow, 0-4), B contact heat (temperature reached in 15 s, 0-4, e.g. level 4 = 500 C), C convective heat (heat transfer index, 0-4), D radiant heat (0-4), E small splashes of molten metal (number of drops, 0-4) and F large amounts of molten metal (grams, 0-4). The 2020 update aligned the text with the new EN ISO 21420 (general glove requirements) and Regulation (EU) 2016/425; test methods were refined while principles stayed the same. A certification also requires EN 388 with at least abrasion level 1. PPE category II or III depending on use.
