Standard for gloves against convective and contact cold down to -50 C; three-digit code plus water tightness.
Description
EN 511:2006 covers gloves against cold, defined as temperatures down to -50 C from convective and contact cold. The snowflake pictogram carries a three-digit code: A convective cold (insulation value I, 0-4), B contact cold (thermal resistance R, 0-4) and C water tightness (0 for not tight, 1 for tight after 30 min immersion). EN 388 with at least level 1 for abrasion and tear is a precondition. Typical use cases are cold storage, winter logistics, construction, fish processing and outdoor assembly in winter. PPE category II, combinable with EN 388 (mechanical) and EN 407 (heat and flame). The standard has not been revised since 2006 and, while formally valid, a new revision is announced.
