Standard for bump caps; protection against striking stationary objects, no substitute for hard hat.
Description
EN 812 covers bump caps, textile caps with a rigid inner shell that protects the head against striking stationary, immovable objects. Typical uses are warehouses with low shelving, automotive shops under lifts, and maintenance work in tight spaces. It sets requirements for shock absorption, resistance to sharp objects and dimensional stability under heat and humidity. Classes such as EN 812/A1 for low temperatures and EN 812/A2 for electrical insulation may be added. Importantly the norm states that bump caps do NOT protect against falling objects. For that a hard hat per EN 397 or a sport/climbing helmet per EN 12492 is required. Occupational EN 812 caps sit in PPE cat. II and are CE certified under Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
