Standard for welder clothing with two classes and flame test procedures A1 (surface) and A2 (edge).
Description
EN ISO 11611:2015 covers protective clothing for welding and related processes such as flame cutting and brazing. It defines two performance classes: class 1 for manual welding with limited spatter (at least 15 metal drops before the back rises more than 40 C, RHTI 24 at least 7 s) and class 2 for high-spatter techniques (at least 25 drops, RHTI 24 at least 16 s). The flame test procedure is also stated: A1 (surface ignition per ISO 15025 with 10 s flame exposure) or A2 (edge ignition). The standard requires EN ISO 13688 as baseline and is often combined with EN ISO 11612. As PPE category III certification must be done by a notified body under module C2 or D. In practice tight cuffs, covered zippers and overlapping seams are mandatory.
