European standard for chemical protective clothing offering limited performance against liquid splashes (Type 6, "spray test") — deliberately lightweight protection class for short contact with small amounts of chemicals.
Description
EN ISO 13034 defines the requirements for chemical protective clothing with limited performance against liquid chemicals in the form of spray mist or light splashes. The standard is also called "Type 6" and is the lightest protection class within European PPE Category III for chemical protective clothing.
Testing includes the so-called spray test (EN 17491-4 or EN 468): a nozzle spraying dye-containing liquid wets the suit for 10 minutes at a defined water volume. Only a limited amount of liquid may penetrate to the absorber material underneath. Type 6 is suited to tasks such as handling diluted cleaning agents, occasional splashes during agricultural spraying (plant protection), laboratory handling of small amounts and maintenance work with low chemical exposure.
