Standard for materials and clothing with limited flame spread; index 1, 2 or 3 per ISO 15025.
Description
EN ISO 14116:2015 sets requirements for materials, material assemblies and clothing with limited flame spread. It aims to restrict the risk of clothing catching fire during unintentional brief contact with small flames but does not cover radiant or convective heat; EN ISO 11612 covers those. Materials are tested per ISO 15025 procedure A and classified as Index 1, Index 2 or Index 3. Only Index 3 corresponds to code A1 of EN ISO 11612 and may touch the skin; Index 1 material must not form skin-contact parts. Since the 2015 update all trims, seams and fittings must reach at least Index 1. Typical use cases are electrical, petrochemical and rail workshops and vehicle assembly where brief spark contact may occur. PPE category II under Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
