EN ISO 20471:2013

Standard for hi-vis clothing with class 1, 2 and 3 depending on fluorescent and retroreflective area.
Description
EN ISO 20471:2013 replaced EN 471 in 2013 and is the mandatory hi-vis standard in Europe and beyond. It sets three visibility classes: class 1 for low risk (at least 0.14 m2 fluo and 0.10 m2 retro), class 2 for medium risk (0.50/0.13) and class 3 for high risk (0.80/0.20). Fluorescent materials must be fluo yellow, orange-red or red; retroreflective materials must deliver at least 330 cd/(lx*m2) at a 5-degree observation angle. It also covers washability, UV behavior and stripe placement (e.g. horizontal 5 cm bands at defined heights). Hi-vis is PPE category II under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and must be CE certified. Class 3 is mandatory on motorway work and night sites; class 1 is enough as an add-on vest.
