GO/RT 3279
Also known as: UK rail hi-vis standard
British railway group standard for track-side hi-vis; stricter than EN ISO 20471.
Description
GO/RT 3279 is a Railway Group Standard by the UK Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) governing hi-vis clothing for work on the British rail network. It is stricter than EN ISO 20471, especially about the fluo orange base color and the placement of retroreflective stripes. Fluo orange is mandatory for track personnel and equipment must remain reliably visible in heavy rain and from long distances. In practice it means bib-and-braces, jackets and vests with large reflective panels and chest bands. In continental Europe GO/RT 3279 is not mandatory but essential for export and charter work with British rail contractors; manufacturers for the UK market certify collections accordingly. Multiple editions exist; the current version is available from RSSB under license to rail operators.
