ISO 105-C06 - Colour fastness to washing
Also known as: ISO 105 C06, EN ISO 105-C06, Colour fastness domestic wash
Standardised wash test for the colour fastness of textiles — simulates domestic and commercial laundering with steel balls and rates colour change and staining on the grey scale 1-5.
Description
ISO 105-C06 is currently the most important wash test for evaluating the colour fastness of textiles and their behaviour under laundering. The method uses a defined container (Launder-Ometer or Wascator) with steel balls, simulating the mechanical action of a household machine. Several variants exist (A1S to E2S) with different temperatures (40 °C to 95 °C), 30 min duration and detergent formulations (ECE reference detergent B).
Evaluation is based on two criteria: the colour change of the sample itself and the staining on a multifibre strip (SDC DW or TV) with 6 fibres (WO, PAC, PES, PA, CO, CA). Both are graded on the grey scale (ISO 105-A02/A03) from 5 (no difference) to 1 (severe change/staining). For OEKO-TEX Standard 100, at least grade 3-4 for colour change and 3 for staining are required.
- Procedure: 8 variants (A1S-E2S), 40-95 °C, 30 min
- Mechanics: 10-50 steel balls, ECE detergent B
- Evaluation: colour change + staining on 6-fibre strip
- Scale: grey scale 1 (poor) to 5 (perfect)
