ISO 105 colour fastness
Also known as: colour fastness series, wash light rub fastness
ISO series for colour fastness; B = light, C = wash, E = water/perspiration, X = rubbing.
Description
The ISO 105 series bundles the internationally relevant colour fastness tests for textiles and is split into several letter groups: ISO 105-A (general basics and grey scales), ISO 105-B01 to B10 (light fastness, with ISO 105-B02 as the key test using a xenon arc lamp and D65 daylight equivalent), ISO 105-C01 to C10 (wash fastness, widely used ISO 105-C06 for domestic and commercial laundry), ISO 105-E01 to E04 (water, sea water and perspiration acid/alkaline) and ISO 105-X (rub fastness, notably ISO 105-X12 dry/wet with a crockmeter). Grading uses the grey scale: 5 = no change, 1 = severe staining/bleeding. Minimum grades (usually 3-4 or better) are mandatory in OEKO-TEX Standard 100, GOTS and industrial laundry certifications (EN ISO 15797). Corporate wear tenders typically require wash fastness of at least grade 4 per C06 and light fastness of at least 4 per B02.
