RIS-3279-TOM (ex GO/RT 3279)
Also known as: UK rail hi-vis standard
UK rail standard for hi-vis clothing; builds on EN ISO 20471 class 2 and mandates fluo orange.
Description
The standard RIS-3279-TOM (formerly GO/RT 3279) is the UK rail standard for hi-vis clothing near the track and is maintained by RSSB (Rail Safety and Standards Board) in the Rail Industry Standard catalogue. It reproduces the earlier Group Standard GO/RT 3279 unchanged in Annex A and is the mandatory reference for anyone working on or near the line in the UK network. It builds on EN ISO 20471 class 2 for the background fabric and retroreflective material; on top it mandates the specific fluo orange colour (per clause 5.1.2 of EN ISO 20471:2013) and specific stripe placement. Without RIS-3279-TOM/GO-RT-3279 marking, orange hi-vis clothing may not be worn on UK railways. It is not relevant for mainland Europe, where EN ISO 20471 class 3 is the de-facto standard for trackside workers.
