Rib knit alternating two knit and two purl stitches — broad, sculptural ribs.
Description
2×2 rib refers to a rib knit alternating two knit stitches with two purl stitches (in contrast to classic 1×1 rib, where every stitch alternates). This creates broader, clearly visible ribs with a sculptural three-dimensional look and slightly less recovery force than 1×1 rib.
Gauges range from 7 to 16, produced on flat or double circular machines. Materials: cotton, merino, wool, cashmere, cotton-elastane blends. Weights 260-380 g/m². 2×2 rib is the standard binding for sweatshirt cuffs, polo collars, wristbands and hem bands — wide enough for strong grip yet soft draping.
Complete garments such as rib-knit dresses, body tops and loungewear are also often produced in 2×2 rib. Care: 30-40 °C, turn inside out, dry flat or on hangers; low shrinkage for cotton, wool cycle for wool.
