Anti-pilling fleece

Fleece with chemically/thermally shortened fibre ends that lastingly resists pill formation.
Description
Anti-pilling fleece refers to a finish in which the brushed fibre ends are shortened and bound by a special thermal treatment (polishing with hot cylinders) and/or a chemical enzyme treatment. This reduces the tendency to form pills under abrasion — especially in zones such as underarms, backpack strap areas or cuffs.
Pill resistance is classified by ISO 12945 (Martindale test); values of 4-5 are very good, below 3 problematic. Classic 200-weight fleeces without anti-pill finish often reach only 2-3, with finish 4-5. Weights vary by base fleece, typically 180-330 g/m² polyester.
Practically all quality outdoor and corporate fleece jackets are anti-pill finished today. Brands such as Polartec Classic, TECFleece or Regatta VaporLine set the standard. Care: 30-40 °C, turn inside out, no fabric softener; with correct handling the anti-pill effect lasts 40-60 washes.
