Double face knit
Also known as: double face knit, two-face knit, reversible knit
Double-bed knitted fabric with two “right” faces — thick, soft, dimensionally stable and ideal for cardigans, jackets and technical sportswear.
Description
Double face knit (also doubleface or double knit) is made on a circular or flat knitting machine with two opposing needle beds. The yarn systems are interlocked so that both faces of the fabric look like a knit right side — there is no visible “wrong” back. As a result the fabric has more volume, is thicker and warmer than a single-face knit (single jersey) and can be worn on either side.
In garment construction double face is used for cardigans, cardi jackets, blazers, heavier dresses, loungewear sets and technical sport jackets. It holds its shape well, does not curl at the edges and cuts cleanly. When two different colours are used each face can show its own look — fully reversible. Classic double face should be distinguished from interlock, which also runs on two needle beds but appears finer and flatter.
