Knit pattern with broken V-shaped diagonal — the knitted counterpart of the woven herringbone.
Description
Herringbone knit translates the classic herringbone pattern into knitting — the V-shaped diagonal is created by alternating knit/purl reversal patterns or by staggered cable elements on flat-bed knitting machines. Unlike the woven version, it produces plastic three-dimensional ribs with a pronounced volume effect.
The pattern is mainly used in fine to medium cable knits, men's cardigans, scarves and beanies in merino, cashmere or cotton. It flatters the silhouette, looks classic-elegant and thanks to its standing ribs is slightly more abrasion-resistant than simple plain knit panels.
