Milano knit
Also known as: Milano rib, Milano stitch
Double-face knit binding of one row rib and two rows jersey — smooth, stable, business-grade.
Description
Milano knit (also Milano rib or Milano stitch) is a double-face knit binding produced on double interlock or flat-knitting machines by alternating one row of 1×1 rib with two rows of jersey. The result is a smooth, dense, dimensionally stable knit with clearly visible horizontal lines on the reverse.
Gauges range from 12 to 20. Base materials are predominantly merino, cotton or wool blends (wool-PA for business pullovers). Weights 250-380 g/m². Milano knit drapes heavily and looks almost like a woven, is highly shape-retentive and hardly wrinkles. It stretches less than classic rib and keeps its form after many wears.
Classic applications: premium business pullovers, twin sets, ladies' dresses (Milano dress), crew-neck sweaters, cashmere cardigans. Brands: John Smedley, Loro Piana, Boglioli. Care: wool cycle or hand wash 30 °C, dry flat; iron with a pressing cloth. Ideal for corporate business wear.
