Ottoman knit

Knitted version of ottoman fabric — transversely raised ribs produced on double-jersey machines.
Description
Ottoman knit is the knitted counterpart of classic woven ottoman: a compact double-jersey fabric with clearly visible, transversely raised ribs. The structure is produced on interlock or double-cylinder circular machines by inserting extra yarn layers at regular intervals that puff out the base courses. Rib spacing is typically 3–10 mm, weight 250–450 g/m².
The hand is firm, full-bodied and shape-holding, with good recovery and little tendency to bag out. Ottoman knit hardly creases and does not curl at the edges – a clear advantage over single jersey. Classic uses: pencil skirts, sheath dresses, tailored jersey blazers, business cardigans, high-end tunics and skirts in medical and hospitality wear. Fibres are usually viscose or polyester blends with 3–8 % elastane.
