Description

Piqué knit (as opposed to the woven piqué marcella) is a circular knit whose surface displays a three-dimensional, small-checked honeycomb pattern. The structure arises from alternating knit and purl stitches combined with tuck rows that form small elevations. Gauges range from 20 to 28; the fabric is usually produced on double interlock machines.

The base material is mostly combed cotton (100%) or cotton-polyester (65/35), rarely with elastane. Weights range from 180 to 250 g/m². Piqué knit is more dimensionally stable and less transparent than single jersey, has a slightly rougher, more textured hand and is abrasion resistant — the honeycomb structure reduces creasing.

Piqué knit is the standard fabric for polo shirts since René Lacoste launched the first "tennis piqué" in 1927. Further uses: corporate polos, sport polos (golf, tennis), kids' polos, service wear. Care: 30-40 °C, low shrinkage in sanforised quality, low tumble dry.
